AI CodeOps vs Devin
AI CodeOps vs Devin, as of October 2026: what each product is, sourced facts on plans, Git hosts and deployment, and when Devin is the better pick.
AI CodeOps and Devin both let you hand a coding task to AI agents that work in the cloud and come back with a change. They differ in what they emphasise. This page sets out what each product is, compares a few things we could check in Devin's own documentation, and says plainly where Devin is the better choice.
What Devin is
Cognition describes Devin as "an autonomous AI software engineer that can write, run and test code", used through a web app, a CLI and an API (Devin docs). The same page says Devin can take on Linear and Jira tickets, and that you can tag it in a Slack or Microsoft Teams thread. Devin also includes Devin Review, which its docs call a code review platform inside the Devin web app, with a bug catcher and security scanning (Devin Review docs).
What AI CodeOps is
AI CodeOps runs AI software-engineering sessions in your browser. You describe a task, and a team of agents (architect, builder, reviewer, tester, security auditor and others) plans it, writes the change against your repository, runs your tests and reviews the result. Then the change waits at a release gate: tests, the AI findings review and approvals must pass before it can ship, and a policy can require two approvers. Every change has a signed evidence pack that anyone can check at /evidence/verify.

Where Devin is the better choice
Be honest with yourself about what you need. Devin is likely the better fit if:
- You use Azure DevOps. Devin's docs list Azure DevOps among its source code providers. AI CodeOps does not connect to Azure DevOps.
- You want the agent in a terminal or a chat thread. Devin offers a CLI, and its docs describe working from Slack and Microsoft Teams. AI CodeOps is browser-only by design.
- You are a single developer who wants a paid plan today. Devin publishes Pro and Max plans for one user. AI CodeOps is in open beta, and its Team plan has not been priced yet.
- You need a dedicated single-tenant deployment run by the vendor. Devin documents a Customer Dedicated Deployment in a single-tenant VPC.
Where AI CodeOps fits
AI CodeOps is built for teams that want AI to do the work and a clear record of how each change was approved.
- A gate, not only a pull request. A change ships only when tests pass, AI findings are reviewed and the required approvals are in. A change whose AI review could not finish is held, not waved through. See quality gates.
- Evidence you can hand to an auditor. The evidence pack records the task, models, approvals and each vote, policy decisions, findings, tests, the pull request and the deployment. It is signed with Ed25519.
- Cost you can see per session. Spend caps apply per workspace and per workflow, and every session shows its cost. See cost controls.
- Gitea and Forgejo. If your code lives on your own Gitea or Forgejo server, you connect it with a personal access token.
- Model choice. Run on the platform's Economy, Standard or Premium tiers, let Auto pick per step, or bring your own provider key.
How to decide
Pick one real task your team would assign this week. Run it in both products against the same repository. Compare the pull requests, how long review took, what it cost, and what record you have afterwards of who approved it. To start on AI CodeOps, follow the quickstart. Frequently asked questions
Is AI CodeOps a replacement for Devin?
For some teams. Both run AI coding work in the cloud and open changes for review. AI CodeOps puts more weight on the gate a change passes before it ships; Devin covers more surfaces, such as a CLI and chat tools.
Which Git hosts does each product support?
AI CodeOps connects to GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Gitea and Forgejo. Devin's docs list GitHub, GitHub Enterprise Server, Azure DevOps, GitLab and Bitbucket.
How is usage billed?
AI CodeOps is free during the open beta, with a monthly AI allowance, and Enterprise is priced per seat. Devin has Free, Pro, Max and Teams plans billed in dollars, and Enterprise is metered in ACUs against an order form.
Can I try both on the same repository?
Yes. Each works through your Git host, so you can point both at one repository and compare the pull requests they open.
