Devin alternative: AI CodeOps

Looking for a Devin alternative? AI CodeOps runs AI coding sessions in the browser with a release gate, signed evidence and spend caps. Open beta, free.

Devin is one of the best-known AI coding agents, and many teams are happy with it. If you are looking at alternatives, it usually comes down to one of three questions: which Git host you use, how much control you need over what ships, and how you want to pay. This page explains how AI CodeOps answers each one, and when you should stay with Devin.

Devin in one paragraph

Cognition describes Devin as "an autonomous AI software engineer that can write, run and test code", used through a web app, a CLI and an API, and able to pick up Jira and Linear tickets or be tagged in Slack and Microsoft Teams (Devin docs). As of October 2026, its self-serve plans are Free, Pro at $20 a month, Max at $200 a month and Teams from $80 a month (Devin billing docs), and Enterprise usage is metered in ACUs (usage docs).

Why teams look at AI CodeOps instead

You want a gate, not just a pull request

In AI CodeOps, a change does not ship because an agent finished. It waits at a release gate until three things pass: your tests, the AI findings review, and the approvals your policies require. Approvals can require two people. If the AI review could not complete, the change is held. Several agents review each diff, so a security auditor and a tester look at the change as well as a reviewer.

You need to show how a change was made

Every change has a signed evidence pack: the task and models, approvals and each vote, policy decisions, findings, tests, the pull request, the deployment and the audit trail. It is signed with Ed25519, and anyone can check it at /evidence/verify without an account. The audit log records who changed what.

You want predictable AI spend

Spend caps apply per workspace and per workflow, and every session shows what it cost. You choose a model tier per session: Economy, Standard, Premium, or Auto, which picks the tier per step. Or bring your own provider key. See cost controls.

Your code is on Gitea or Forgejo

AI CodeOps connects to GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Gitea and Forgejo. For your own Gitea or Forgejo server, connect with a personal access token. Devin's docs list GitHub, GitHub Enterprise Server, Azure DevOps, GitLab and Bitbucket as its source code providers (Devin docs).

When to stay with Devin

Switching is not always the right call. Stay with Devin if:

  • you work in Azure DevOps, which AI CodeOps does not support;
  • your team starts agent work from a terminal, Slack or Microsoft Teams, since AI CodeOps is browser-only;
  • you need a single-tenant VPC deployment run by the vendor, which Devin documents (deployment docs);
  • you want a paid plan with a published price today. AI CodeOps is in open beta, and the Team plan will be priced before the beta ends.

What moving looks like

There is nothing to install. Sign in, create a workspace, connect your Git host and create a project. Then start a session with a task you would have given Devin and compare the result. The quickstart walks through it. Teams that need SSO (SAML or OIDC), custom roles or a self-hosted deployment can talk to us about Enterprise; self-hosting is only available on Enterprise.

Frequently asked questions

Is AI CodeOps a drop-in Devin alternative?

For teams that assign tasks and review pull requests in a browser, mostly yes. If you rely on Devin's CLI, Slack or Teams workflows, or Azure DevOps, it is not.

Does AI CodeOps cost anything?

It is free during the open beta, with a monthly AI allowance on the platform's models. Enterprise is priced per seat through sales.

Can I keep my own model provider?

Yes. A workspace can add its own provider key, and those sessions are billed by that provider instead of the platform allowance.

Where is the detailed comparison?

See the AI CodeOps vs Devin page, which compares Git hosts, plans, SSO and deployment with links to Devin's own docs.

  • Choose Devin if you use Azure DevOps or GitHub Enterprise Server, which are on its list of source code providers.
  • Choose Devin if your team starts agent work from a terminal, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Jira or Linear.
  • Choose Devin if a single developer wants a paid plan with a published price today: Pro is $20/month and Max is $200/month.
  • Choose Devin if you need a single-tenant VPC deployment hosted by the vendor.
