AI CodeOps vs CodeRabbit
AI CodeOps vs CodeRabbit, as of October 2026: an AI reviewer for every pull request next to an AI team that writes, tests and gates the change.
CodeRabbit and AI CodeOps both use AI to look at code changes, but they start from different places. CodeRabbit is a reviewer: it reads the pull requests your team opens. AI CodeOps is a team of agents that writes a change, tests it, reviews it and holds it at a gate until people approve it. This page explains the difference, compares facts we could source from CodeRabbit's own pages, and says when CodeRabbit is the better choice.
What CodeRabbit is
CodeRabbit's docs say it "helps teams review, prioritize, understand, and secure agent-generated changes" (CodeRabbit docs). When a pull request is opened it runs a full review, and it reviews new commits incrementally. A review includes a walkthrough comment, line comments with a category and severity, chat with the bot, one-click fixes, and results from more than 50 open-source linters and security scanners (code review overview). It also reviews code before the pull request, in IDE extensions and a CLI (IDE and CLI reviews).
What AI CodeOps is
AI CodeOps runs AI software-engineering sessions in your browser. You describe a task. Agents plan it, write the change against your repository, run your tests and review the result. In the review step, several agents look at the same diff for correctness, security, tests and docs, and their findings are merged (see multi-agent code review). The change then waits at a release gate until tests pass, findings are reviewed and the required approvals are in.

Where CodeRabbit is the better choice
- Your developers already write the code and you want a reviewer on every pull request. That is exactly what CodeRabbit is built for. In AI CodeOps, review is a step inside a session, not a bot that comments on every pull request.
- You want feedback in the editor. CodeRabbit has IDE extensions for VS Code, Cursor and Windsurf, and a CLI. AI CodeOps is browser-only.
- You use Azure DevOps or Bitbucket Data Center. Both are on CodeRabbit's platform list. AI CodeOps does not connect to Azure DevOps.
- You maintain public open-source repositories and want review without applying. CodeRabbit reviews public repositories for free. AI CodeOps has an open-source program too, but it is for non-commercial projects under an OSI-approved license, and you apply for it.
- You want linter and scanner output in the review. CodeRabbit runs a large set of open-source linters and security scanners alongside its AI review.
Where AI CodeOps fits
AI CodeOps is for teams that want AI to do the work itself, with the controls to trust what it ships.
- The work, not only the review. Agents plan, build and test the change, so the pull request arrives with tests already run.
- A gate that holds. A change ships only when tests pass, AI findings are reviewed and approvals are in. Approvals can require two people. A change whose AI review could not complete is held.
- A record of every change. Each change has a signed evidence pack with the task, models, findings, tests, approvals and deployment. Anyone can check it at /evidence/verify.
- Cost per session. You see what each session cost, and spend caps apply per workspace and per workflow.
- Gitea and Forgejo. Connect your own server with a personal access token.
Using both
The two products do not have to compete. AI CodeOps opens normal pull requests, so a reviewer you already run will review them too. A team could let AI CodeOps write and gate routine changes while CodeRabbit reviews everything people write by hand. Frequently asked questions
Does AI CodeOps replace CodeRabbit?
Not always. CodeRabbit reviews pull requests your team opens. AI CodeOps writes changes with AI agents and reviews them before they ship. Some teams will want both.
Can I use CodeRabbit and AI CodeOps on the same repository?
Yes. AI CodeOps opens ordinary pull requests on your Git host, so a reviewer you already run on that repository sees them like any other.
Which one supports Gitea or Forgejo?
AI CodeOps connects to Gitea and Forgejo. CodeRabbit's platform list covers GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps, so check its docs if you run Gitea or Forgejo.
How do the prices compare?
AI CodeOps is free during the open beta and Enterprise is priced per seat. CodeRabbit publishes per-developer prices on its pricing page, and public repositories are reviewed free.
