AI CodeOps vs Snyk Code
AI CodeOps vs Snyk Code, as of October 2026: a SAST scanner with PR checks and IDE scans next to an AI team whose security review gates each change it writes.
Snyk Code and AI CodeOps both look for security problems in code changes, in very different ways. Snyk Code is a static application security testing (SAST) tool: it scans your code in the IDE, the CLI and on pull requests. AI CodeOps is a team of AI agents that writes a change, tests it and reviews it, with an AI security review as one of the gates. This page is clear about the difference, compares facts from Snyk's own pages, and says when Snyk is the better choice. For most teams that care about security, the honest answer is to run a scanner as well.

What Snyk Code is
Snyk's docs call Snyk Code a developer-first SAST solution (Snyk Code). It supports 16 language groups, from Java, JavaScript, TypeScript and Python to COBOL and Apex (supported languages). It scans in IDE plugins for VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Visual Studio and Eclipse (IDE plugins), and Snyk Agent Fix proposes fixes for the issues it finds (Agent Fix).
On pull requests, Snyk scans the code changes automatically. With branch protection on, a failed Snyk check stops the pull request from merging, and you choose the severity at which it fails (pull request checks). Snyk Code is part of a wider platform that also covers open-source dependencies (SCA) with license checks (Snyk Open Source), containers and infrastructure as code.
What AI CodeOps is
AI CodeOps runs AI software-engineering sessions in your browser. You describe a task. Agents plan it, write the change, run your tests in a sandbox and review the result. A Security Auditor agent reviews every diff, and the Security-Sensitive Change workflow adds a risk analysis before the change is written (secure). Findings carry a severity, file and line, and open high or critical findings block the change at the release gate until someone triages them.
What AI CodeOps does not do matters here. It has no CVE scanner and no secrets scanner, and it doesn't generate SBOMs. Its Dependency Auditor reads your manifests and relies on the model's knowledge, which has a training cut-off, not a live vulnerability database (security and SBOM).

| AI CodeOps | Snyk Code | |
|---|---|---|
| How it finds issues | AI review of each change its agents write | Static analysis (SAST) of your code (docs) |
| What it checks | Only changes made in AI CodeOps sessions | Your repositories, local code in the IDE and CLI, and pull request changes (PR checks) |
| Blocking | No pull request until tests pass and no high or critical finding is open | A failed PR check blocks the merge when branch protection is on (PR checks) |
| Dependencies | AI dependency audit; license rules checked against an SBOM you record | Snyk Open Source (SCA) with license compliance (docs) |
| Git hosts | GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Gitea, Forgejo | GitHub, GitHub Enterprise, GitLab, Bitbucket Server and Cloud, Azure Repos (SCM integrations) |
| Where it runs | Browser | Web app, IDE plugins, CLI, CI/CD and API (CI/CD) |
| Price | Free during the open beta; Enterprise per seat | Free: 5 projects, 100 Snyk Code tests a month. Team: from $25 a month, up to 10 developers, 1,000 Code tests a month. Enterprise: contact sales (plans) |
| SSO | SAML or OIDC on Enterprise | SAML, OIDC and ADFS on Enterprise (SSO) |

Where Snyk Code is the better choice
- You need a scanner across all your code. Snyk can scan every repository and every pull request, whoever wrote it. AI CodeOps reviews only the changes made in its own sessions.
- You need dependency scanning. Snyk Open Source is a software composition analysis tool for your open-source dependencies. AI CodeOps has no CVE scanner.
- You want findings while you type. Snyk's IDE plugins scan in the editor. AI CodeOps has no IDE extension.
- You use Azure Repos or GitHub Enterprise Server. Snyk lists both. AI CodeOps connects to neither.
- You need an audited security vendor now. Snyk states ISO 27001 certification. AI CodeOps is not certified yet.
Where AI CodeOps fits
AI CodeOps is not a scanner. It fits teams that want AI agents to write changes and want security review built into the path to merge:
- Security review before the pull request exists. A change with an open high or critical finding never becomes a pull request (quality gates).
- Security workflows. Security-Sensitive Change audits the diff after a risk analysis, and Threat Model produces a STRIDE analysis (agents and workflows).
- People approve. A code change needs an approval from someone other than the person who launched it, when the team has another approver (approvals and policies).
- A signed record. Each change has an Ed25519-signed evidence pack with its findings, tests and approvals.
Using both
This is the setup we would suggest to a security-minded team. Keep Snyk on every repository, with its pull request check required in branch protection. AI CodeOps opens ordinary pull requests, so Snyk scans each one, and a change has to pass both the AI CodeOps gate and Snyk's check before it merges. In CI, the AI CodeOps release gate API answers whether a change from an AI CodeOps session may ship, and can also deny it for a license you disallow. For the wider view, read Snyk alternatives, SonarQube alternatives for quality gates, and secrets and security.
Frequently asked questions
Is AI CodeOps a SAST tool?
No. AI CodeOps has an AI Security Auditor review each change its agents write, and open high or critical findings block the change. It has no static analysis engine, CVE scanner or secrets scanner. Snyk Code is a SAST tool.
Can Snyk check the pull requests AI CodeOps opens?
Yes. AI CodeOps opens ordinary pull requests, so Snyk's pull request checks scan them like any other, and with branch protection a failed check stops the merge.
Can AI CodeOps sessions use the Snyk MCP server?
Not today. Snyk's MCP server runs locally over stdio, and AI CodeOps sessions run on the platform, so they only connect to remote MCP servers on a public https address.
Does AI CodeOps generate SBOMs?
No. You generate the SBOM with your own tool and record it against the project. The release gate can then deny a change whose SBOM has a license you disallowed.
