Greptile alternative: AI CodeOps
Comparing Greptile alternatives? AI CodeOps writes, tests and reviews changes with AI agents, then holds each one at a release gate until people approve it.
Greptile is an AI code reviewer known for using the context of your whole codebase. People look for an alternative for different reasons: some want AI to write the change as well as review it, some want a gate that holds a change rather than a score on it, and some want Gitea or Forgejo without an Enterprise contract. This page is honest about which of those AI CodeOps solves, and when you should keep Greptile.
Greptile in one paragraph
Greptile's docs describe it as an AI code review agent that reviews every pull request automatically (Greptile docs). It builds a graph index of your codebase, posts a summary, line comments with a severity and a 0 to 5 confidence score, and learns from your reactions. As of October 2026 its Starter plan is free for one developer with 50 credits a month, Pro costs $1 per credit with no seat fees, and a review uses 1, 3 or 10 credits depending on its depth (pricing). GitHub, GitLab.com and Bitbucket Cloud are on all plans; GitHub Enterprise Server, GitLab Self-Managed, Bitbucket Data Center and Gitea are on Enterprise (code providers).
How AI CodeOps is different
It does the work, then reviews it
An AI CodeOps session starts from a task. Agents plan it, write the change against your repository and run your tests in a sandbox. Then several agents review the diff for correctness, security, tests and docs (multi-agent code review).
The gate holds the change
A confidence score tells you how risky a pull request looks. AI CodeOps decides instead: a change becomes a pull request only when tests pass, the AI review completed and no high or critical finding is open, and a person other than the one who launched it approves when the team has another approver (quality gates). If the AI review could not finish, the change is held, not passed.
Spend you can see
You see what each session cost, and spend caps apply per workspace and per workflow (cost controls).
A signed record
Each change has an Ed25519-signed evidence pack. Anyone can verify it at /evidence/verify.
When to keep Greptile
- Your people write the code. If you want an AI reviewer on every pull request your developers or other coding agents open, that is Greptile's job. AI CodeOps reviews only the changes made in its own sessions.
- You want review before you push. Greptile has a CLI. AI CodeOps is browser-only.
- You run GitHub Enterprise Server, Bitbucket Data Center or Perforce. Greptile lists them on Enterprise. AI CodeOps supports none of them.
- You need SOC 2 now. Greptile says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant (security). AI CodeOps is not certified yet.
Many teams will want both: Greptile on every pull request, and AI CodeOps for the changes they hand to agents.
Getting started
AI CodeOps is in open beta and free to use. Connect your Git host and run a first session from the quickstart. For the side-by-side table with sources, read AI CodeOps vs Greptile. If you are weighing other AI reviewers too, see CodeRabbit alternatives.
Frequently asked questions
Is AI CodeOps a code review bot like Greptile?
Not mainly. Review is one step in an AI CodeOps session, after agents write and test the change. If you want a bot to review every pull request people open, Greptile fits that better.
Can I keep Greptile and add AI CodeOps?
Yes. AI CodeOps opens normal pull requests on your Git host, so Greptile reviews them like any other pull request.
Does AI CodeOps charge per review?
No. It is free during the open beta, with a monthly AI token allowance on the platform's models, or you bring your own provider key. Enterprise is priced per seat.
Does AI CodeOps support Gitea?
Yes, on every plan, along with Forgejo, GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket. Greptile lists Gitea on its Enterprise plan.
